2005+ Polaris Sportsman Reverse Override Locker

This guide was written to show you how to install a reverse override lock switch.  This switch will enable you to lock on your reverse override.  When the switch is in the "ON" position, it is as if you are constantly holding in the yellow button.  When the switch is in the "OFF" position, your yellow button functions as it always has.  This mod is extremely useful when you need to use your winch, AWD and revese.  I found it impossible to work the winch and hold the override button, while hitting the throttle all at the same time.

Step 1:

You will need to either assemble or purchase your switch.  I choose to order mine through Quadovator so I would have the factory look of the Otto brand switch.  You can choose to use any waterproof switch of your choice.  You will need the switch and approximately 12" of wire.  (The Quadovator kit comes with everything you need.)

Step Two:

Remove the three phillips head screws holding the headlight pod on.

Once the pod is free, unhook the two wiring harnesses plugged into your speedometer and your worklight switch (if equipped) and set the pod aside.

Step Three:

Locate the wiring bundle coming from your reverse override button and follow it down into the pod.  Cut a 1 1/2 to 2 inch slit in the rubber sheathing.  Be careful not to cut any of the wires inside.

Step Four:

Using your connection method of choice, splice the blue wire from the switch to the orange and grey wire coming from the yellow button.

Step Five:

Repeat Step 4, splicing the brown wire of the switch to the brown wire coming from the yellow button.

Step Six:

Plug your speedometer back up and test your connection by putting the bike in AWD.  With the switch OFF, shift into reverse and the AWD light should go off (just as it always has.)  Press the yellow override button to make sure it is functioning properly.  (You should see the AWD light come on.)  Let go of the override button and the AWD light should go off.  Now turn on your newly installed switch and make sure the AWD light once again lights up.  The light should now stay on until you turn the switch off.
